Fall is my favorite season.  I love the crisp weather, fall colors, and candy corn!  After picking up several bags of the stuff when it was on mega-sale at CVS, I decided to turn some of it into homemade candy corn ice cream.  Here’s a picture of the results.

Flip Flop Boots

I’ve been wanting to share this story from our trip to Oregon and Washington for a while, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

While at the Portland Saturday Market, we saw some interesting fashion: footwear that was a cross between boots and flip-flops. They were so interesting that we sneakily took a picture.

Last night we made a great black bean dish with beets and rice. Here’s a shot of what the recipe was supposed to look like:

Not bad for home cook without a food stylist! I used delicious Chioggia beets and they had a great, sweet flavor.

Last week Tom surprised me by saying that he’d like to try eating vegetarian for a month. So for the whole month of September we’re not going to eat any meat.

I don’t think this will be too hard for us – we usually cook only one meat dish a week anyway, and we’re allowing ourselves fish. Speaking of fish, last night we kicked off the vegetarian adventure with one of Tom’s favorite meals: homemade fish sticks.

Fish sticks? Who makes those?
